Hazard (official). A loose or detached oil filter can allow oil to escape from the engine and contact the rear tire or road surface, increasing the risk of a crash.
Action / remedy (official). Dealers will inspect and replace the oil filter as necessary, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed January 14, 2025. Owners may contact BMW customer service at 1-800-525-7417.
